KOMPSAT-2, the 9th South Korean satellite also known as "Multifunctional Practical Satellite-2", was launched on July 28, 2006 from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in Russia.
With a 1m-class camera, the satellite can identify objects of 1m on the ground. At that time, only a few countries such as the United States, Russia and Israel owned this technology. KOMPSAT-2 is equipped with a 1m-class high-resolution camera jointly developed by Korea Aerospace Research Institute and Israel, making South Korea one of the world's leading remote sensing powers.
